Muskegon River Fishing Report – May 29, 2024 – Newaygo, Michigan
1 min read

The Muskegon river is coming into prime dry fly time almost a month earlier than normal, in and around the Newaygo area. With the very odd run of weather we’ve had over the past couple of months, mother nature is ahead of the calendar for sure !
Hatches include tan caddis, sulphurs and some gray drakes as well. Streamer fishing still producing both resident Brown and Rainbow trout, as well as Smallmouth Bass.
With a return of “near normal” weather this week, we hope to see the rise in river temperatures taper off just a bit, as that is also ahead of schedule.
River levels have finally come up close to average flows for this time of year, with current readings in the 1,800 cfs range and river temperature in the low 60’s.
We will soon be amidst the best combo fishing of the summer, with the peak of insects and dry fly opportunities, crossing paths with the best early summer Smallmouth bite.
Long range forecast looks good for keeping river levels and temperatures in place, with highs in mid to upper 70’s and lows around 60.
