1 min read
The Muskegon river fishing report for June 14, 2022 in the Newaygo, Michigan area focuses on the pending “change of the seasons, within a season”, as we see hot summer weather arrive.
As river temperatures rise, we will see our primary insect hatches come to a close over the next week-10 days and the onset of our 2 month smallmouth bass season kick into gear. We held some good river temperatures for quite some time over the last couple weeks, but it’s inevitable that they will rise in the days ahead with hot weather. The recent rains did provide a bit of new water in the river and based on current weather forecasts, we may not have anymore until the end of the month. This will surely find river levels dropping over the next handful of days. Click HERE for current Muskegon river water flow data.
With both fly fishing and light spin tackle equipment, we have been getting into both resident Brown and Rainbow trout, as well as quite a few Smallmouth bass.
A combination of topwater flies and lures, as well as subsurface streamers and lures imitating various baitfish and crayfish, has brought fish to the net over the last week+.
We should see some really good smallmouth fishing over the next couple months and before we know it, the fall run Chinook salmon will be on the horizon !
