Muskegon River Fishing Report – July 22, 2019 – Newaygo, Michigan

Mark holds a nice, chunky Smallmouth bass from today.

Following a number of days with some very strong winds and storms that came through much of west Michigan, the Muskegon river and most every other river in certain regions of Michigan, are running well above average flows.  Some of the spring fed streams will come up quickly, but also drop quickly once they have crested.  The Muskegon river in the Newaygo area, did come up quite a bit, but crested earlier today and is starting to come back down.  Click HERE for current Muskegon river water flow data, below Croton dam.

It looks as though we’re done with severe weather for a while though.  Click HERE for current and forecasted weather for the Newaygo, Michigan area.

The fishing conditions went from “iffy” at best, to “looking pretty good”, with a bit of off color water and levels a touch high….I would take this all summer if we could get it !

With both fly fishing and conventional tackle, we’re getting into mostly smallmouth bass, with a few trout mixed in here and there and even the occasional walleye.

Present flows are in the 2300 cfs range, with average being closer to 1300 and river temperature was in the 70-71 degree range today.
