Muskegon River Fishing Report – Croton, MI – July 8, 2015

Prime time for Smallmouth Bass on the Muskegon river !

The Muskegon river near Croton, MI is running about average flows for this time of July and has cooled off in recent days due to mild air temperatures throughout the days and nights.

Trout fishing in the upper river has been fair, as we’re wrapping up the bulk of our primary hatches and we’ll soon be into mostly nymph fishing for what trout fishing we have left through the summer.

As water temperatures increase, smallmouth bass fishing improves and we’re coming into the beginning of prime time smallmouth fishing for the rest of July and August.  We’re fishing them with both topwater poppers and similar waking patterns, as well as subsurface with sinking or sink tip lines, fishing baitfish and crayfish patterns on 5-7 weight rods.

Present water temperature is in the upper 60’s.
