Smallmouth Bass are HUNGRY as of late !

The Muskegon river in the Newaygo, Michigan area is entering a time of late summer where we’ll see a transition from mostly Smallmouth Bass fishing, to fishing for resident Brown and Rainbow trout once river temperatures come down a bit and not too far down the road, arrival of our fall run Chinook Salmon.

With both fly fishing and conventional equipment, we’re still targeting “smally’s” from the general Newaygo area, down stream towards the port town of Muskegon itself. It has been an unusual but fun summer season, with an array of changing weather, which has found river conditions changing frequently and kept us on our toes, changing tactics a bit here and there as needed to find good fishing.

As we reach the tail end of summer, those who have interest in a fall salmon or fall/early winter steelhead outing, will be checking schedules for any September – mid December openings to schedule their great lakes big game fishing trip, on the Muskegon, Pere Marquette or Manistee rivers. I have very few open dates, so if that’s on your radar, best to check in for any open dates to get your on the river.

If any are looking to get out for some walk-in/wade fishing on their own and would like feedback on rigging, locations, different species of fish to pursue, don’t hesitate contacting me with any questions – 616-560-3195.

For now…..

Jeff
