Muskegon River Fishing Report – Newaygo, MI – April 24, 2016

Dave, from IN, with a very chunky Brown trout caught behind some spawning steelhead on the Muskegon river.
The Muskegon river near Newaygo, MI is running around average flows for this time of spring and still has a bit of a tea stain to it.
We are still in our spring steelhead season and getting both migratory steelhead, as well as resident Rainbow and Brown trout. The trout fishing behind spawning steelhead has been quite good and the streamer bite has turned on as well.

Gene, also from IN, with an exceptionally colored up male steelhead from the Muskegon river.
The present full moon and pending heavy rains will dictate how the rest of our spring steelhead run will go on the Muskegon river. Historically, we have solid fishing up through mid/late May, but this spring we’ve had few curve balls thrown our way….we’ll see how things pan out.
River temperatures are still very good for this time of late April and are presently in the 48-49 degree range.
