Muskegon River Fishing Report – July 8, 2019 – Newaygo, Michigan

So, what do you make of this fellow anglers ?…a Brook trout orange belly, on a Muskegon river Rainbow trout ?
Hmmmmmm………
The Muskegon river is still running a bit above average flows for this time of early July in the Newaygo, Michigan area, but showing signs of dropping in levels and rising in water temperature over the next week. Click HERE for current Muskegon river water flow data below Croton dam.
With an extended trout season due to all the rains and cooler weather of late May and into mid June, the river “looked” more like a lush mid spring, than an early summer over the last couple of weeks. Click HERE for current and forecasted weather for the Newaygo, Michigan area.
Up to this past week, we’ve had hatches bringing rainbow and brown trout to the surface for the latter portion of our primary dry fly fishing on the Muskegon river for the summer season.
With water temperatures rising up to the 70 degree range, it marks the onset of our prime Smallmouth Bass fishing on the Muskegon river, with a couple sections also offering realistic opportunities for Northern Pike….or even a Walleye ! We can pursue these with either fly fishing or light spin tackle, during full or half day outings. All trips include the use of equipment and soft beverages, lunch provided on full day trips.

Should the Grand river in/around the Grand Rapids area start to clear up, it too will offer some good fishing over the next month+, but we’re waiting on Mother Nature for some help here.
