Muskegon River Fishing Report – October 26, 2026 – Newaygo, Michigan
1 min read
The Muskegon river is in full “fall mode” with the last round of Chinook salmon coming in on their annual spawning run, fall steelhead are electric and resident trout are hungry and feeding !!
Despite the lack of rain over the last near 2 months, the Muskegon river is holding decent water levels, temperature and great fishing for the end of October.
With both fly fishing and conventional equipment, we’re targeting steelhead and trout now for the most part and with some of these fall steelhead, you better hold on !!!! Acrobatics like no other fresh water fish I’ve EVER found, multiple jumps exceeding 5 feet are fairly common.

This is by far the best fall salmon run we’ve had on the Muskegon river in quite some time and as a result, we should see good fall and early winter steelhead fishing this year, maybe even like the “good ‘ol days”, when we had solid fishing right up to Christmas.
Mother nature could lend a hand here with some precipitation in the next couple weeks, it looks like we have a “chance” for some rain next week.
Current river levels around the 1200 cfs mark and river temperature in the low to mid 50’s.
More to follow !!…
