Muskegon River Fishing Report – October 26, 2025 – Newaygo, Michigan

Chrome & Gold……Muskegon river has some good ones of both !!!

The Muskegon river in the Newaygo, Michigan area has various kinds of resident and migratory fish to keep one quite busy ! From fall run Chinook and Coho salmon, as well as Steelhead, to resident Brown and Rainbow trout, it’s a pretty active time for fishing the Muskegon and other west Michigan rivers.

With both fly fishing and conventional equipment setups, we can target any or all….or just randomly catch any or all on any given day !

The recent rains that came through much of the Midwest didn’t really help with river levels, as the ground was very dry from months of no rain, so if the rain didn’t fall IN the river, not much got TO the river due to very thirsty earth.

That being said, migratory fish are finding their way in and resident fish are accustomed to having such conditions, as the river has run low and clear for months.

With the return of near summer like weather a few weeks ago, the fall “transition” was a bit delayed and this could very well translate to an extended early winter steelhead season, going into if not through the month of December.
