Muskegon River Fishing Report – November 7, 2026 – Newaygo, Michigan

Brad with a GREAT Muskegon river steelhead !

The Muskegon river fall steelhead run has taken center stage and based on the slow entry into “fall” like conditions, should go well into December this year.

After a run of Indian Summer that went up until last week, we were facing a reversal of river conditions, with river levels that had dropped well below average and water temperatures that came up nearly 10 degrees over about a 10 day time frame.

The rains from this past week, coupled with the return of more normal early November air temperatures in recent days, overall conditions have improved quite a bit.

Prior to that goofy run of warm weather, the river saw a real good push of mid October Chinook salmon AND a really good early run of fall steelhead. Some salmon are still in the river completing their spawn and we’re hoping that the slight rise in river levels and drop in temps, will encourage more steelhead to make their way upstream.

Not to be left out are the resident Brown and Rainbow trout, with the Browns showing their fall colors as well….some great ones are being caught this year !

With both conventional equipment and fly fishing setups, we’re targeting steelhead right now and will be right up until Christmas with any help from Mother Nature.

Current river levels are around 1,500 cfs and water temperatures are in the low 50’s.
