Muskegon River Fishing Report – November 5, 2024 – Newaygo, Michigan
0 min read
The Muskegon river is in transition mode from the pretty good overall Chinook and Coho salmon spawning run, to fall steelhead which has kicked off pretty good for fall or 2024 ! MUCH better than last year, we’re seeing a mix of smaller “skippers”, solid 7-8 # “chrome rockets” and larger 10+ # adults so far this fall.
With both fly fishing and conventional equipment, we’re targeting specific runs based on several variables and with the record low river levels for the last 2+ months, that has been the biggest challenge so far this fall, but appears to be changing with the rains we’re getting right now….LONG overdue and I hope it pours for another 5-10 hours !
This fall has been slow in coming, with air and river temperatures well above normal for the first week of November, which should translate into a long fall and early winter steelhead season, extending well into December, maybe even to the end of the month and into the new year !
I have very limited open dates up to Christmas, so if any are considering an outing, best to touch base sooner than later by email, call or text – 616-560-3195.
Tight lines !.
Jeff
