In 1974 Jeff Bacon went with his Dad, Ron, to visit his friend in Montana. It was there, on the banks of the Big Hole River, where Jeff has his first experience fly fishing and caught his first Grayling. He learned fishing knots and skills that would serve him years down the road as his passion for fishing on rivers grew as he made his way through school and beyond.
Nearly 20 years ago Jeff decided it was time to make his passion a full time career. He took a break from the normal work life and started guiding fishing trips along West Michigan rivers. He specializes is both fly fishing and light spin tackle trips for cold and warm water species along the Grand River, Manistee River, Muskegon River, Pere Marquette River, and White River., all here in west Michigan.
As an FFF certified casting instructor, Jeff has experience teaching hundreds of people proper casting techniques. You can learn how to effectively present a #18 BWO with floating line and 6x tippet, how to roll cast an indicator rig, or even how to cast and retrieve large streamer patterns with sinking line on an 8 weight rod, to bring up a trophy trout.
Jeff also offers light spin tackle as an option for days or times of the day, when fly casting is difficult due to conditions or for those who just “want to fish”. Younger anglers learning fly fishing often tire quickly, so spin tackle is a good option for them as well.
