Muskegon River Trout Fishing Report – May 31, 2019 – Newaygo, Michigan

A great trip, with great friends, catching some large bonefish…..very therapeutic !
My apologies for no reports over the last week+, I took a little time to re-charge my batteries and went fishing with client friends down in salt water for some screaming fast bonefish !
The Muskegon river trout fishing report for May 31, 2019 in the Newaygo, Michigan area is about the onset of our best dry fly fishing season, for resident Brown and Rainbow trout !
With all the rain west Michigan has gotten over the last couple weeks, river levels are up, but temperatures are holding nicely. Click HERE for current and forecasted weather for west Michigan. Normal flows for this time of late spring/early summer are in the 2,000 cfs range, but the river is currently running over 3,200 cfs, which I prefer…but it won’t last long. We are into the beginning of the best dry fly fishing of the season for trout on the Muskegon river in the Newaygo area, which should last for a couple weeks, possibly more based on weather. Click HERE to read a short article on dry fly fishing the Muskegon river.
With more rains forecasted over the next few days, we may see river conditions stay right about where they are now, for the next week or so. Present water temperature in the 57-58 degree range, with very good visibility.
