Muskegon River Steelhead Fishing Report – Newaygo, MI – December 5, 2015
showing signs of coming down over the last day or so.
We are still fishing for fall/early winter Steelhead and our season on the Muskegon river should run through the month of December and possibly into early January, based on how quickly water levels and temperatures drop. That said, the rains over the Thanksgiving weekend brought in a good batch of fish and we will have Steelhead to fish to throughout the winter.
Angling methods/techniques vary quite a bit for both the fly fisher and conventional tackle angler. Fly fishing options include indicator nymph style fishing, bottom bouncing -a.k.a. chuck-n-duck – as well as streamer fishing. Conventional tackle setups being used most are float fishing with longer rods, as well as bottom bouncing.
- West Michigan resident Chuck C., with a nicely colored up and VERY energetic Muskegon river Steelhead
Resident Rainbow and Brown trout are still actively feeding and we’re getting into some nice Browns on a consistent basis.
Present water temperature in the low to mid 40’s.
