Muskegon River Steelhead Fishing Report – Newaygo, MI – December 25, 2015

Happy Ho Ho !!!

The Muskegon river near Newaygo, MI is still running above average flows and has actually come up a bit over the past 24-48 hours.  Normal flows for this time of early winter is just under 2000 cfs, present flows on the Muskegon river are around 3200 cfs.  Due to the mild weather though, we’re holding much higher water temperatures than typical for the end of December and fishing for both resident Rainbow and Brown trout, as well as STEELHEAD……remains good !!

With both fly fishing and light spin tackle equipment, we’re fishing a combination of typical “fall” runs, as well as some winter “lies” where both trout and steelhead are being caught.

Long range forecast has about half of the next week+ with daytime temperatures above freezing, along with some more typical December weather mixed in come the end of next week.

Present water temperature in the 40-41 degree range.
