Muskegon River Steelhead Fishing Report – April 21, 2015

Muskegon River
The Muskegon river near Newaygo, MI is running a little above average flows for this time of spring after having some up today as a result of the rains from yesterday and today. Along with the rains and cooler air temperatures, the water temperature has dropped as well.
We are in the middle of the Muskegon river spring steelhead run….it’s in full swing ! After a few bouts of “here today, gone tomorrow”, we’re now seeing more fish on a regular basis and setting up for a good close to the month of April.
Recent outings have been with primarily fly fishing gear, but we’ve also mixed in some light spin tackle rigs when conditions lead us in that direction. Either way, fish are there to be had and it’s pretty much a matter of personal preference.
As warmer temperatures return towards the end of the week, we’ll see water temperatures begin to rise and surely a new round of steelhead in fresh out of lake Michigan.
Present water temperature in the 46-47 degree range.
