The Muskegon river near Newaygo, MI is presently running around average flows and surprisingly stable following the heavy rains that came through Michigan in recent days.

We are in the middle of the fall & early winter Steelhead run on the Muskegon and getting into fish each day with both fly fishing and light spin tackle gear.  Weather as of late has dictated which approach we take…..it was BRUTAL out there today, with wind gusts in excess of 40 mph making standing up tough…let alone “fishing” !!!…but we found fish !

Some very nice resident Brown and Rainbow trout are being caught as well, some of the Rainbows are very fat and in the 14-17″ range and we’re getting some Brown trout in excess of 20″.

With cooler and wet weather ahead, we’ll likely see water levels come up some and this will surely bring more fish in from lake Michigan.  We could see some of our better fishing for this time of the season, from late November well into December.

Present water temperature hovering around the 50 degree mark.
