Muskegon River Fishing Report – Newaygo, MI – November 26, 2015

John, from west MI, with a nice Muskegon river “buck” steelhead…

The Muskegon river in the Newaygo, MI area is running above average flows right now and coming up due to the snow melt runoff and rains of the last 24-48 hours.

The fall and early winter Steelhead season continues and we’re fishing them from the Newaygo area, down to the port town of Muskegon on the west Michigan shoreline.

Muskegon river steelhead that Dennis caught
Dennis came up from Chicago, IL on his first Muskegon river fall Steelhead trip and put this one in the net before lunch !

Using both fly fishing and light spin tackle gear, both resident Rainbow and Brown trout, as well steelhead are being caught at this time.

The present rains and rise in water levels is long overdue and will surely bring more Steelhead into the river as we approach December…..which was arguably our most consistent fishing last year from the last week of November through the third week of December….will we repeat ???

Present water temperature is in the mid 40’s the last couple of days.
