Muskegon River Fishing Report – Newaygo, MI – May 18, 2016

Chad with a nice steelhead

Chad, from west MI, with a rather colored up Steelhead caught today on the Muskegon river.

The Muskegon river near Newaygo, MI is presently running a bit below average flows for this time of year and flowing at 2460 cfs at the time of this report.

The spring steelhead run is all but done, however we have a few new fish here and there showing up over the last few days.

With MANY small baitfish in the river right now, resident trout are keying in on them and finding that window of time when they’re feeding on them is key to catching fish at this time.

Both resident and migratory sucker fish are in the spawning process right now and will likely draw some trout close to them over the next week or so.

Present water temperature in the 53-54 degree range.
