Muskegon River Fishing Report – Newaygo, MI – May 11, 2015

Muskegon River

Dan, from west Michigan, with a beautiful Muskegon river Brown trout caught while stripping streamers today in the rain.
The Muskegon river near Newaygo, MI is running above average flows at this time due to the heavy rains that came through most of Michigan over the past 24 hours, which has brought most all rivers up considerably today.
We have new steelhead in fresh out of lake Michigan, which will likely continue over the next week, providing very viable steelhead fishing up through mid May and beyond.
With the rise in water levels, streamer fishing for resident Brown and Rainbow trout will be much better than in the previous week when water levels were lower and clarity very good. Higher, off color water is optimal for streamer fishing and although one might not get a lot of fish, we’re certainly getting some good ones chasing our baitfish patterns out and hooking up on those fish that do commit.
Present water temperature in the mid to upper 50’s.
