Muskegon River Fishing Report – Newaygo, MI – January 28, 2016

Friend and fellow guide Clint, from Baldwin, MI and owner of the Red Moose Lodge on the banks of the Pere Marquette river, holds a nice and quite
“chrome” steelhead for this time of the year.
The Muskegon river near Newaygo, MI is presently running above average levels at this time, but it looks very good overall from a “health of river” standpoint.
We are catching both resident Brown and Rainbow trout, as well as steelhead with both fly fishing and light spin tackle rigs, it’s all a matter of preference come this time of year.
With pretty chrome steelhead on the line today, it appears as though more fish are trickling in from lake Michigan and may very well continue to do so over the next month+, as we close in on the onset of the spring steelhead run on the Muskegon river.
Present water temperature is in the 33-34 degree range.
