Muskegon River Fishing Report – Newaygo, MI – December 12, 2016

Muskegon river steelhead fishing

Curtis, from west MI with a very colorful Muskegon river steelhead.

The Muskegon river fishing report for Newaygo, MI area on December 12, 2016 is still about steelhead fishing.  From the Croton and Newaygo areas, all the way down close to Muskegon itself, we’re fishing steelhead with both fly fishing and conventional tackle.

With the colder weather that’s come through west Michigan over the last week+, steelhead are moving into their “winter lies” and should provide some good winter fishing when weather permits.

The heavy snowfall over the last 24+ hours has put a beautiful blanket of white on riverside trees.  Along with this weather, we’re seeing some much colder conditions coming in the days ahead and things will surely slow down for a few days as this weather passes.

Water levels have dropped over the past couple days and presently running just below 1500 cfs.

Present water temperature in the 39-40 degree range.
