Muskegon River Fishing Report – Newaygo, MI – December 10, 2015
rather unusual for this time of the year, but it’s making for some better than average December fishing for both steelhead and resident trout.
We are still pursuing steelhead and trout with both fly fishing and conventional gear, it’s simply a matter of personal preference with cold weather not being a factor. If you’re a fly fisher, you can swing/strip streamers, bottom bounce egg and nymph patterns, or fish indicator nymphing rigs with floating line. For the conventional tackle angler, bottom bouncing both bait and/or insect imitations is working, as well as fishing both under floats/bobbers with longer rods.
With long term forecast calling for some pretty mild weather over the next week+, no reason to believe we should see significant changes in river conditions. With our last good rains over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend, a good number of fish came in, many are still there, but they did get fished to pretty hard for the last week or so…it’s simply a matter of covering water on certain days to find fish….but we’re finding them !!!
Present water temperature in the 42-43 degree range.
