Muskegon River Fishing Report – Newaygo, MI – August 5, 2015

Joe from CT with a great smally !

Joe, from CT with a rather large Muskegon river smallmouth bass taken “on top”.

The Muskegon river near Newaygo, MI is running near average flows as we get into the “dog days of summer”….August !

After a wet and cool early to mid July, it’s nice to see some more normal Michigan summer weather arrive.   Smallmouth bass are the species of choice on the Muskegon river right now and we’re getting them with both topwater offerings, as well as subsurface imitations of baitfish and crayfish.

The recent heavy rains that came through much of Michigan in the last few days may affect flows a bit over the next 2-3 days, then we should see things stabilize once this is done.

Present water temperature in the low 70’s.
