Muskegon River Fishing Report – Newaygo, MI – April 6, 2016

Bogdan, from Chicago via Romania, with a great, chrome Muskegon river steelhead from today.
The Muskegon river near Newaygo, MI is still running above average flows for this time of early April due to the rains and snow that have come through much of Michigan over the past week. It has dropped since reaching its peak last Friday and is clearing a bit each day when water levels come down.’
We are at the beginning of prime time for the Muskegon river spring steelhead fishing and getting into both pre-spawn fish in their brilliant spring colors, as well as bright chrome fish fresh out of lake Michigan. We are fishing deeper pools and runs near spawning grounds with both fly fishing and light spin tackle rigs and getting into fish every day.
Present water temperature in the 41-42 degree range.
