Muskegon River Fishing Report – Newaygo, MI – April 30, 2016

Muskegon river steelhead

Byron, from Louisville, KY with a nicely colored up male Steelhead from our outing on the Muskegon river.

The Muskegon river near Newaygo, MI is running a bit above average flows for this time of late April and still holding a noticeable “tea stain” to the water.  With the cooler nights and cold rains of a few days ago, water temperature is still quite chilly.

We are catching both spring run Steelhead, as well as resident Brown and Rainbow trout with all sorts of fly fishing rigs, from chuck-n-duck for steelhead, to indicator nymphing rigs for both steelhead and trout, along with stripping streamers on the move for resident trout.

With some cool day and night time temperatures over the next few days and a chance of rain tomorrow,  we may see river conditions change again here shortly.

Present water temperature in the 48-49 degree range.
