Muskegon River Fishing Report – May 13, 2018 – Newaygo, Michigan

Scott holds a great Muskegon river brown trout from his recent outing the other day.
The Muskegon river fishing report for May 13, 2018 in the Newaygo, Michigan area is taking a turn here in the coming days as we change seasons and the fish we will pursue in the weeks ahead.
We’ll likely see the last of our spring steelhead come and go over the next week, then we will be focusing on a combination of either indicator nymphing behind spawning suckers or the first of our dry fly fishing opportunities for resident Brown and Rainbow trout.
With the odd spring weather we’ve seen so far, who knows what to expect next ! That said, we should see water temperatures resume their slow climb up, which will trigger insect activity and provide our much anticipated dry fly fishing.
Due to the heavy rains that came through most of Michigan a few days ago, water levels are up and with the cooler days and nights as of late, water temperatures actually dropped a couple degrees, but this will be short lived.
Present water flows in the 4,200 cfs range, with averages being around 3,000 and water temperature in the 53-54 degree range. To view current flow data, click this link – https://waterdata.usgs.gov/usa/nwis/uv?site_no=04121970
