Muskegon River Fishing Report – March 9, 2019 – Newaygo, Michigan

Gray Drake dry fly for Muskegon river trout

Another Gray Drake “cluster”….ready for a big ‘ol trout to go “GULP” !!

The Muskegon river fishing report for March 9, 2019 in the Newaygo, Michigan area is coming with what looks like the onset of our “spring” season !!!!!

After a brutal winter, with some very atypical bursts of much warmer than normal temperatures smattered in here and there, spring looks to finally be coming.  With both short and long range forecasts having temperatures in the 40’s and even 50’s, we should see the river respond accordingly and our first good batch of spring steelhead coming out of lake Michigan and into the Muskegon river.  Click HERE for current and forecasted weather.

The river is still running a bit lower than normal and COLD !  Water temperatures are having a tough time climbing above that 33-33.5 mark, but soon !  Click HERE for current Muskegon river water flow data.

I will be back out this coming week and have a more accurate take on things, but lets face it……33 degrees is 33 degrees and not many steelhead are going to be charging up the river with water that cold.

Present flows in the 2200 cfs range and most recent temperature at 33.5 degrees.
