Muskegon River Fishing Report – March 23, 2018 – Newaygo, Michigan

Byron….aka “slim”, with a beautiful Muskegon river steelhead caught today while fishing with long time friend Andrew.
The Muskegon river fishing report for March 23, 2018 in the Newaygo, Michigan area is about the spring steelhead run that is in progress and will be for another month+.
We are into the front end of the run and will continue to see fresh fish come out of lake Michigan and into the Muskegon river on their annual spawning run.
With both fly fishing and light spin tackle equipment, we’re targeting pre-spawn fish and finding a few resident Brown and Rainbow trout along the way.

Andrew with a nice bright one of his own!!
With cold nights over the last week+, water temperatures are struggling to make it to and stay in the upper 30s’, but this will change soon enough as we get further into spring.
Present water temperature in the 37-38 degree range.
