Muskegon River Fishing Report – March 10, 2017 – Newaygo, MI

Jeremy with a nice, bright steelhead from the other day.
The Muskegon river fishing report for March 10, 2017 is all about the onset of our spring steelhead run, the very odd weather we’ve had as of late and projections for the spring and early summer fishing.
We are on the front end of our spring steelhead season and although Mother Nature has provided us with some unseasonably warm weather over the last month+, we’re seeing our typical late winter weather return.
Based on present long range forecasts, we should stay closer to “normal” weather over the next 10 days – 2 weeks, which will include daytime temperatures in the upper 30’s – mid 40’s, but not until the cold front bearing down on us comes through and cools the rivers down a bit in the next few days.

Mike holds a very healthy and faaassstt spring steelhead from yesterday.
Despite the crazy warm weather of February, it appears as though we’re back to near normal conditions for this time of March and our spring steelhead and trout, as well as early summer trout fishing should not be drastically affected by odd February weather.
We’re seeing some new steelhead arrive fresh out of lake Michigan in recent days and should continue to see fresh fish trickle in. Until we get our first big change in river water temperatures though, it may continue to be a “trickle affect” to our early spring steelhead season.
Present water temperatures in the 36-37 degree range.
