Muskegon River Fishing Report – June 7, 2022 – Newaygo, Michigan

1 min read

The Muskegon river fishing report for June 7, 2022 in the Newaygo, Michigan area is about the welcome return of more “near normal” weather conditions and improved fishing for Brown and Rainbow trout, as well as Smallmouth Bass.

After a hot run of weather a week+ ago, cooler days, nights and a touch of rain have helped out and providing better fishing.  Click HERE for current and forecasted weather for the Newaygo, Michigan area.

Insect hatches have still been off a bit, but there have been an array of bugs hatching and resident trout feeding on them, providing some good opportunities for dry fly fishing.

The streamer bite has been slow for trout, but improving for smallmouth and will only continue to improve as baby fish grow and migratory minnows make their way up river once lower river temperature begin to rise.  Click HERE for current Muskegon river water flow data.

Not far off will be the onset of our 2 near 2 month summer season for smallmouth bass, northern pike and the occasional walleye, on various stretches of the Muskegon river, as well as the Grand river in and around the Grand Rapids area.  Pound for pound  considered one of the better fighting fresh water fish, “smally’s” are will biters, great scrappers and at times, very plentiful !

Should any be considering a summer outing for Pere Marquette river trout, Muskegon river trout/smallmouth/etc. or Grand river smallmouth/pike, it would be best to touch base sooner than later, as most weekend dates are taken and other dates filling in as well.

Feel free to call or email with any questions about conditions on local rivers, should you be looking to get out for some walk in-wade fishing….I’ll have a report on bug activity if nothing else.  Phone – 616-560-3195 – Email – jrbacon@ameritech.net

Tight lines…!
