Muskegon River Fishing Report – June 3, 2016

The Muskegon river near Newaygo, MI is running around average flows for this time of late spring.   It is slowly warming up as we get into the warmer months of summer.

It’s “bug time” on the river now and we’re fishing dry flies to imitate several bugs that are emerging and becoming options for the trout to “look up” at. 

Beginning with cinnamon Caddis mid to late afternoon, followed by Sulphurs and then Gray Drakes around dusk.  We’re having good opportunities at some quality Brown and Rainbow trout each outing.

Mid day fishing can be a mix of swinging wet flies, fishing small streamers on light sink tips, as well as indicator nymph fishing around spawning suckers.

With more typical early June weather upon us now and forecasted for the next near 2 weeks, we should see insect hatches continue to provide some dry fly fishing through most of June.

Present water temperature is in the 62-63 degree range.
