Muskegon River Fishing Report – June 21, 2022 – Newaygo, Michigan

The Muskegon river fishing report for June 21, 2022 in the Newaygo, Michigan area focuses on the transition from trout dry fly fishing, to the onset of our 2 month season for great warm water species of fish such as Smallmouth Bass and Northern Pike.

With both fly fishing and conventional equipment, we’ll be targeting these fish with both topwater and subsurface imitations of bait fish, crayfish, frogs and the like over the next 8+ weeks.  We may fish different sections of the Muskegon river, from the upper impoundments of Rogers or Hardy dams, or much further down river, many miles below Newaygo itself.  Should the Grand river “set up” correctly in the weeks ahead,  I will surely consider doing trips on it, from the Ionia area, down stream through central Grand Rapids.

How each river or section of river fishes over the weeks ahead, will be determined in part by any changes in river conditions due to weather and related rains that may come with changes in it.  Click HERE for current and forecasted weather for the Newaygo, Michigan area.

I will be paying attention to conditions on the Pere Marquette river as well over the weeks ahead and anticipate doing some trout trips up there with hoppers/terrestrials in July and possibly early August.
