Muskegon River Fishing Report – February 26, 2019 – Newaygo, Michigan

Muskegon river dry fly fishing

Parachute Sulphur emerger ready for a hungry trout !

The Muskegon river fishing report for the last days of February are about the fluctuating river levels and this continued crazy winter of weather we’re having.  Present river levels are lower than normal for this time of winter and looking more like mid summer levels right now !  Click HERE for current Muskegon river water flow data.

I don’t have much to say about current fishing conditions because I haven’t been out recently due to pretty poor river conditions for fishing either resident Rainbow and Brown trout or the limited number of steelhead that are around to be pursued.    With such ups and downs in weather and river conditions over the past few weeks, it has been pretty much a coin toss as far as when one can even get on the river, let alone have water temperatures that aren’t producing slush like conditions to fish in.

With snow here and more on the way, along with more cold temperatures for next week, who knows what kind of an early March we’re in for ?  Click HERE for current and forecasted weather for the port town of Muskegon, on the west Michigan shoreline.

Present flows on the Muskegon river below Croton dam are around 1700 cfs, with normal flows typically around 2300 cfs.
