Muskegon River Fishing Report – February 26, 2017 – Newaygo,

Even I get to catch one !!
MI
The Muskegon river fishing report for late February in the Newaygo, MI area is about SPRING STEELHEAD ! With the very odd and unseasonably warm weather over the past couple weeks, our spring steelhead run is getting off to an early start this year. We’re surely not “done” with winter, but with all the snow melt and related runoff, the Muskegon river is coming to life as water levels and temperatures rise.
With both fly fishing and light spin tackle equipment, we’re catching steelhead that “wintered over” in the river, as well as new ones coming in fresh out of lake Michigan. A bonus is some of the resident Rainbow and Brown trout that we’ll randomly catch while fishing for steelhead.
With more mild weather in the forecast this week and beyond, we will see some early signs of steelhead spawning in certain parts of the river.
Present water temperature is in the 37-38 degree range.
