BUGS !!!!

The Muskegon river near Newaygo, MI is running a bit below average flows for this time of winter, with most recent readings coming in around 1400 cfs.

I was recently on the river, but more for boat maintenance than fishing.  Needed to run boat engine a bit as it has been in storage for the last couple weeks due to me being gone and the extremely cold weather putting the kabash on fishing.

‘Tis the time of winter to start getting things in order for some March fishing and with some help from mother nature, we’ll actually be able to fish !!  With less snow overall in the upper reaches of the Muskegon river watershed, we “should” avoid the big floods that hampered us the last 2 years.  Presuming we don’t get another April weekend of 6+ inches of rain, we could see a more timid spring runoff and gradual spring steelhead run.

Present water temperature in the 33-34 degree range.
