Muskegon River Fishing Report – February 21, 2018 – Newaygo, Michigan

The Muskegon river at flood stage, at Croton dam earlier today.
The Muskegon river fishing report for February 21, 2018 in the Newaygo, Michigan area is about…..no fishing !!!
Due to the very heavy rains that came through most of Michigan and the Midwest, the Muskegon river has come up to flood stage, the boat launches have barricades at their entrances and it will be several days before things calm down
The river is presently running at nearly 10,000 cfs, after having reached 11,500 earlier today. For comparison, the average flows for this time of mid winter is around 2,000 cfs.
Once things calm down, fishing will come back into shape and we may even see some new steelhead come in from lake Michigan.
The water IS still cold though and that will be a deterrent of sorts for substantial steelhead movement.
Present water temperature around 34 degrees.
