Muskegon River Fishing Report – February 19, 2017 – Newaygo, MI

Muskegon river steelhead and trout fishing

Isabella holds a nice, chrome, Muskegon river steelhead from today.

The Muskegon river fishing report for February is about this warm weather and surely some changes on the way with our early spring steelhead run.  With crazy warm weather, I’m sure we’ll see some of our steelhead that have wintered over in the river, start to think about an early spawn…..but we’ll see what Mother Nature has in store for us.

We’re still focusing on traditional “winter lies” to find steelhead and when pursuing tout we’re looking for similar water in general and those spots can be small pockets -vs- long runs.

With both fly fishing and light spin tackle gear, we can get a presentation to most fish and it’s all a matter of finding a “biter” in 34-35 degree water.

Water temperature readings from today hovered around the 35 degree mark.
