Muskegon River Fishing Report – December 4, 2014

Muskegon River
The Muskegon river near Newaygo, MI is running a bit above average flows right now, but in very good shape overall and fishing is good !
After the heavy rains and snow melt of a week+ ago, the river came up quite a bit, but also brought more steelhead in from lake Michigan and we should have solid fishing through the end of the year.
We’re fishing for steelhead with both fly fishing and light spin tackle gear and both are productive on any given day. It’s more a matter of personal preference and what’s best for cold weather conditions.
Fly fishing options include bottom bouncing – a.k.a. chuck-n-duck – as well as floating line and indicator and swinging attention grabbing streamers with floating lines and sink tips of varying lengths and weights.
Fish are holding in both faster water fall “lies”, as well as in slower runs and pools where they’re often found during the winter months.
Present water temperature is in the upper 30’s.
