Muskegon River Fishing Report – December 1, 2016 – Newaygo, MI

Jan, from SW Michigan, with a great fall steelhead from today while fishing with Marty and Betsy…a.k.a. “Elsa”……
The Muskegon river near Newaygo, MI is running near “average” flows for this time of late fall and this is a welcome break from the low and very clear conditions of the last month and a half.
With our most recent rains and slight rise in water levels, more fall steelhead have come into the system from lake MI.

“Elsa” with a chrome fall steelhead to top off the day while fishing with Marty and Jan…great time !

Marty with a VERY energetic male steelhead from today’s outing.
We’re catching them with both fly fishing and light spin tackle gear and we should see good fishing through the end of the year.
With a late arrival of fall and the true onset of winter, we could very well have some good fishing in late January and early February, with above average temperatures forecasted this winter.
Present water temperature in the 43-44 degree range.
