Muskegon and River Fishing Report – August 10, 2020 – Newaygo, Michigan

Chicago area resident Matt was able to get out with others for a half day of chasing smallmouth bass on the Grand river with me recently. Real “stud” of a smally in hand !
The Muskegon river fishing report for August 10, 2020 in the Newaygo, Michigan area finds Smallmouth Bass, Northern Pike and Walleye as the fish being pursued at this time.
With cooler weather having come through much of the Midwest over the last week+, river temperatures had been hovering around 71-72, but the last couple days of very hot weather, has brought temperatures up a bit. Click HERE for current and forecasted weather for the Newaygo, Michigan area. River levels have remained about the same over the last near week and based on the short and long term forecasts, with more hot weather, we’ll likely see levels come down a bit more. With both fly fishing and light spin tackle equipment, I will be continuing to fish for such warm water species on not only the Muskegon river, but the Grand river in and around the Grand Rapids area, has been fishing good in recent days.
Not long before we’ll be watching the lake Michigan shoreline, as fall run Chinook and Coho salmon, will begin to creep closer to the mouths of their natal rivers, in preparation for their annual spawning run.
I will be guiding the Pere Marquette from the end of August – end of September, followed by a few trips on the Manistee river out of the Wellston area late September and early October. Shortly after, I will return to the Muskegon river for the rest of the October salmon run, followed by the much anticipated fall and early winter steelhead season of November, December and early January.
Should any want a current river report on these or other west Michigan rivers in case you’re looking to get out on your own for a few hours, feel free to send me an email or call 616-560-3195.
Happy Fishing !!
Jeff
