Muskegon River Fishing Report – April 7, 2017 – Newaygo, MI

Steve with a pretty fresh female steelhead that had already spawned and was on her way back to lake MI
The Muskegon river is running above average flows at this time of early April due to the heavy rains that came through most of the Midwest and Michigan over the last several days.

Julie holds a nice, colorful Muskegon river steelhead….her first one !
We are into our spring steelhead run on the Muskegon river and as the water temperatures warm, the fishing will only get better !
We are catching them with both fly fishing and light spin tackle setups. It’s all a matter of personal preference and at times, what works best with the conditions we have to fish in.
Water temperatures remain chilly and just can’t seem to break the 40 degree mark and stay above it, but this may change in the days ahead.

Jake, from west MI with his first steelhead caught on a fly !
Present water temperature at 40.
