Muskegon River

Muskegon river spring steelhead

Joe, from SE Michigan, with a nice, chrome Muskegon river steelhead from yesterday.

The Muskegon river near Newaygo, MI is running near average flows for this time of spring, but may rise a bit over the next handful of days if the weather forecast for next week stays as is.

We are in the last 1/3 of our spring steelhead run based on present river conditions and fish activity, but things can change quickly with a quick jump in water temperatures.

Fish are being caught with both fly fishing and light spin tackle gear and in both fast water gravel runs and deeper tailouts and pools below them.

Mississauga Rattler

We had a “guest” during our shore lunch the other day…..

Egg patterns/imitations and nymphs such as green caddis, black stones, hares ear and sparse hex patterns are producing fish.

Present water temperature in the upper 40’s.
