Muskegon River Fishing Report – April 28, 2017 – Newaygo, MI

The Muskegon river fishing report for late April is about a mixed bag of options for anglers looking to spend a nice spring day on the river.
We are into the last “leg” of our spring steelhead run and into the onset of good fishing for resident Rainbow and Brown trout through mid May, the month of June and into early July.
With both fly fishing and light spin tackle equipment, we’re pursuing migratory steelhead as they enter the river on their annual spring spawning run, as well as the resident trout that feed on the insects and steelhead eggs that gets washed down stream during this process.

Also of interest to many fly fishing enthusiasts come this time of year, fishing streamer patterns can be a lot of fun, especially when weather cooperates.
Trout activity will only increase from this point on in our spring season and it’s truly a time to chase a “trophy trout” on the Muskegon river.
Present water temperature in the 52-53 degree range.
