Muskegon River Fishing Report
- Sam, from IN, holds a nice Muskegon river steelhead from a recent outing with brother Jack and dad Dave.
The Muskegon river near Newaygo, MI is running a bit above average flows for this time of April, but still fishing good during the spring steelhead season. Average flows at this time are in the 2500 cfs range, present levels just under 3000 cfs.
As we move closer to May, we should see another push of fish fresh out of lake Michigan and after that, we may see additional fish trickle in through most of May.
Egg patterns and nymphs, such as green caddis, stone flies, hares ears, pheasant tails and sparse hex patterns, are getting fish in/around spawning grounds and in tailouts of spawning flats.
Present water temperature in the mid to upper 40’s.
