Muskegon River Fishing Report – April 24, 2108 – Newaygo, Michigan

Muskegon river spring steelhead fishing

Happy Birthday to you….!….Steve with a birthday steelhead from today.

The Muskegon river fishing report for April 24, 2018 in the Newaygo, Michigan area is about SPRING !!!….it’s here !

With over a month+ of VERY atypical weather, it appears as though ‘ol man winter has let go and it’s LONG overdue.

We are into what is “typically” the last 1/3 of our late March – mid May spring steelhead run, but this may go longer based on weather and river conditions.

With both fly fishing and light spin tackle equipment, we’re catching both migratory steelhead, as well as resident Brown and Rainbow trout right now.

River levels are still up, but in great shape for my liking and the longer we can hold this water, the better it will be for fishing and the fishery in general.

Present water flows running around 5,000 cfs and water temperature in the 41-42 degree range.
