Muskegon River Fishing Report – April 21, 2018 – Newaygo, Michigan

Maralynn with a very colored up Muskegon river spring steelhead……and a BIG one at that !
The Muskegon river fishing report for April 21, 2018 in the Newaygo, Michigan area is and will be focused on the spring streelhead run over the next few weeks.
With a very odd winter and early spring season from a weather perspective, we can see “light at the end of the tunnel” and spring may finally get here ! River conditions are more like early April than the last leg of it, but this will be changing real fast in the days ahead. Warmer day and night time air temperatures will allow the river to get above 40 degrees and stay there for a full 24 hour period, for the first time this spring.
We’re fishing spring steelhead with both fly fishing and light spin tackle equipment and finding a few resident Brown and Rainbow trout along the way.
The next few days will tell us a lot about how the remainder of the Muskegon river spring steelhead run will pan out…..conditions are prime for “things” to happen….we shall see !
Present water temperature of the Muskegon river in/around the Newaygo area is in the 38-40 degree range.
