Muskegon River Fishing Report – April 11, 2022 – Newaygo, Michigan

Charlie with a real nice Muskegon river steelhead from the other day.

The Muskegon river fishing report for April 11, 2022 in the Newaygo, Michigan area is focused on the spring steelhead run that’s going on now.

These great migratory fish are making their way up natal rivers and will eventually spawn to produce our “next generation” of steelhead.

With both conventional and fly fishing setups, we’re currently targeting these pre-spawn fish in “staging” pools and runs over several miles of river.

Maralynn got a nice steelhead fishing in the nasty weather last Friday.

We still have some high water on the Muskegon river due to heavy rains that came through much of Michigan over the last couple of weeks.  Click HERE for current Muskegon river water flow data.

The short term weather forecast has changed quite a bit in the last 24 hours and we’re now NOT supposed to get the 3 days of decent to moderate rains that were in the forecast a few days ago.  Click HERE for current and forecasted weather for the Newaygo, Michigan area.

Jarod tied into an absolute ROCKET of a Muskegon river steelhead yesterday and managed to get it close enough to slip the net under !

The spring steelhead run will run well into May, with river levels and temperatures dictating how long into May.

Shortly after, we’ll be into the heart of dry fly fishing on the Muskegon river for resident Brown and Rainbow trout in late May and June, followed by prime Smallmouth Bass and Northern Pike fishing on both the Muskegon and Grand rivers in July and early August.

Stephen fished with Jarod and got into several fish as well…this one had some great spring colors….
