Muskegon River Fishing Conditions
The Muskegon river near Newaygo, MI is running near average flows right now, but has seen some erratic rise and drop from fluctuations coming from Croton dam.
Some steelhead are still around for those looking for the last “big bend” of the rod before trout take over for the next month or so.
Hatches include Caddis, Sulphurs & evening Gray Drakes. Hatches have been sporadic, but still getting some fish to “look up”.
Trout fishing with streamers and indicator rigs behind spawning steelhead and now spawning suckers, is producing some nice trout.
We should have a banner year of trout fishing up to early-mid July.
Water temperature in the 63-64 degree range.
Pere Marquette River Fishing Conditions
The Pere Marquette river is running near average flows at this time.
Hatches have begun, with Hendrickson’s leading the way, followed by some Caddis, Sulphurs, Isonychia’s and good evening flights of Gray Drakes.
Daytime fishing has been fair, but subsurface nymphing can bring fish to hand.
Most emphasis is on surface action during peak of the hatch(es).
Present water temperature in the low to mid 60’s.
Grand River Fishing Conditions
The Grand river, near Grand Rapids, MI is running near average flows for this time of early summer.
Warm water species such as smallmouth bass and pike are the primary fish to pursue in the Grand now and through the rest of the summer. Some walleye are there to be had, but that’s pretty much a low light/night bite and not a big draw for many.
At some point over the next month+, we’ll see some Skamania steelhead enter the system on their annual summer run up to their natal rivers that are tributaries to the Grand.
Present water temperatures are in the mid 60’s.
