Fall Steelhead……YES !
Muskegon River
The Muskegon river near Newaygo, MI is running a little above normal at this time. After having come up due to the rains of last weekend, the levels have dropped a fair amount over the last couple days.
The fall Chinook salmon run is in progress right now, with some fish pushing up near spawning grounds and other coming in and staging in deeper pools and runs.
Fall steelhead will be right behind the salmon as we get into mid October.
Trout have been rising to #18 green caddis up closer to Croton dam, so those looking for the last “trout fix”, can find fish looking up near the dam.’
Present water temperature is in the upper 50’s-low 60’s.
Pere Marquette River
The Pere Marquette river between Ludington and Baldwin, MI is running near average flows at this time.
The fall Chinook salmon run is still in progress, although it has been an iffy fall run up to this point at best.
Fall steelhead are being caught as well, but the bulk of the fall run has yet to enter the system.
Some of the largest brown trout of the year are caught during the salmon run, so those looking to “stick a pig”, have the best chance at a big day time brown trout, right now.
Present water temperature in the low 50’s.
Manistee River
The Manistee river near Wellston, MI is running a little above average flows at this time due to rains that came through in recent days.
The fall Chinook and Coho salmon run is going on and getter stronger by the day.
Fall steelhead are around, but not plentiful just yet.
Resident trout are being caught as well, with a healthy population of 14-16″ trout being caught on a daily basis.
Present water temperature in the mid 50’s.
